    Quiz Access Rule

    Access Rule
    v1.9.14
    Ready
    Download Plugin

    Free | Open Source

Two powerful quiz access rules in one plugin. Block reattempts until essays are graded, and automatically hide correctly answered questions so students only redo what they got wrong. Enable site-wide — no per-quiz configuration needed.

⭐ Why this plugin is unlike anything else available

Blocks new quiz attempts until the previous attempt's essays are graded

▸ Native Moodle quiz access rules restrict attempts by time, date, grade threshold, or number. None of them can check whether the previous attempt's responses have been graded — the concept does not exist in the Moodle quiz access API. Quiz Access Rule fills this gap: a student cannot start attempt N+1 until every essay question in attempt N has a grade recorded.

▸ Works with both human grading and AI grading. It checks the Moodle gradebook question-level grade record, not the grading tool used. The teacher can grade manually, run AI grader, or use any combination.

▸ Prevents the most common loophole in essay-based quizzes: students who exhaust their allowed attempts before receiving feedback on their first attempt, depriving them of the learning the feedback was meant to support.

    Feature 1

Block Reattempts Until Essays Are Graded

Prevents students from starting a new quiz attempt until all essay and short-answer questions from their previous attempt have been graded.

    Enable Per Quiz

The essay grading gate must be enabled individually on each quiz where you want it. Open the quiz → Edit settings → Extra restrictions on attempts → tick Require essay grading before reattempt.

    Feature 2

    Hide Correct Questions on Reattempt

When a student reattempts a quiz, questions they answered correctly in their previous attempt are automatically hidden — they only see the ones they got wrong. Requires Each attempt builds on the last (Quiz settings → Question behaviour).

Site-wide Admin Default — No Per-Quiz Setup Required

Go to Site administration → Plugins → Quiz access rules → AI Grader and turn on the hide-correct setting once. Every quiz on the site that has “Each attempt builds on the last” enabled will automatically hide correct questions on reattempt — without touching individual quiz settings.
